Give managers the practical knowledge to respond to sickness absence fairly, support employees appropriately and manage the formal process with confidence and consistency.
The importance of managing sickness absence eLearning
Sickness absences can be incredibly complex, especially for managers who may not have dealt with them before.
They affect the individual, the team covering their workload and the wider business. With day-one Statutory Sick Pay now in force under the Employment Rights Act, the financial and operational impact of absence is expected to increase, with the UK Government estimating the changes could result in an additional £400 million in Statutory Sick Pay being paid each year.
At the same time, UK sickness absence is already at its highest level in more than 15 years, with the CIPD reporting an average of 9.4 working days lost per employee annually. How a manager responds often determines whether a short-term absence stays that way or develops into something harder to resolve.
This course, developed collaboratively by our group eLearning experts and employment law specialists, introduces managers to the different types of sickness absence, how and when to offer support, and how to manage the formal process fairly. Learners will also understand the disability considerations that apply throughout, and how to approach decisions consistently and within the law.
